Town & Board Meetings 12-16-10

Ray Massey called the meeting to order.

Treasurer’s Report:
Chairman Tom Lockette:There has been a revision to the budget. It was noted that we were ending the year with a profit of 56,000.00….about 27,000 less than the original budget. Cash balance of 76,000 at the end of the year, which is the same as we started out with at the beginning of the year. The only bad thing about that is it does not include any capital expenditures. Anything we do on culverts or anything else will come out of that 76,000. Given the economy…It is probably not as bad as it could be, given the state of the economy. New Business:
Eric Markle explained the “911” need for two culverts: Corner of Plum Hollow & Scenic, and 145 Stonebriar. “These really need to be repaired in the next couple of months”. Bids will be discussed at the Board Meeting (7:pm same night).
Roads Committee Chairman Bob Jones explained that there are over 170 culverts in Diamondhead that will be needing repair at some time. There are actually 44 culverts classified as Priority 1 or 2 …..“The Hot List”.
Ray Massey explained that consideration of repair costs include using maintenance personnel verses hiring an outside contracting firm.

Information:
Betts Winsor asked that signs be posted regarding Town & Board meetings on the Front Gate.

Committee Reports:
ACC – Chairman Dan Munroe:  Currently Four homes are under construction at this time, with one more permit recently granted.
Beautification Committee – Liaison Mary Pracht:  Appreciation was expressed for all the many volunteers that came out to support the decorating efforts. “Thank you to all the nearly 37 individuals!”
The Bake sale in November made $3,000.00. Fantastic!
We are now working on the Pancake Breakfast.
We will (Hopefully) have a traffic problem this weekend. We have 4 events scheduled at the same time.

The Police Department and Matt Simpson will be coordinating the roping off of an area of the street for Santa’s sleigh.
A question was asked regarding the New Year’s Eve Party. “Will there be plenty of seats available…” Answer: 160 tickets have been printed for the use of the Banquet Room, Bar area, and Library combined. It will be First Come, First Serve. “Come early, Stay late” Ray Massey.

Focus:
Liaison Jim Hannon announced that if anyone wanted any articles printed in the Focus-Jan. Feb. edition, they need to be in by this Friday.

Public Safety:
Liaison Charles Wood stated that the Public Safety Committee had a great meeting Monday night. Minutes will be published and shared with the Board.

Recreation & Pool Committee:
Liaison Ray Massey – We will be looking for someone to replace Mrs. Timmons, who has been doing a terrific job for the last 3 years. This is a paid position, consisting of pool operations from Labor Day through Memorial Day. For more information you may contact the General Manager, Eric Markle at 262-4470.

Roads Committee:
Chairman Bob Jones explained the need to work on the ditches / culverts in the near future. These ditches / culverts belong to Diamondhead, not the individual property owner. It is fine if the property owner wants to maintain the area with grass, but it is not up to the DPOA to replace the displaced grass while being repaired.

Golf Committee:
Byron Effird brought us up-to-date regarding Golf Committee. May 20th -> 23rd will be the Men’s Four Ball… $250.00 a team. “It is requested that all the members of Diamondhead get some outside players, so we will have a bigger turn-out and more people.” There are some tree removals, but nothing pressing at this time. There are two Holes that still need to be ‘adopted’. 16 Holes have already been adopted.
Karen White asked about golf youth workshops. Todd Belz will be forming these workshops.

It was announced, and made clear, that the speed limit is 25 miles per hour. Please do not speed. This message will go out to all vehicles coming into Diamondhead (including school buses).

Eric Markle thanked the community for his first 60 days. Special thanks were given to Dan Munroe – Four Seasons, and to Doc Norwood for monetary contributions.  A new menu for the 19th Hole coming out next week. New Appetizers and Entrées will be available seven days a week.

Ray Massey explained the “early stage” discussion regarding a future gate at the Pebble Beach entrance.

November board minutes were reviewed and approved.

Culvert Repair bids were presented by the General Manager. $5,745.00 from Bill Milligan, $5,100.00 from Eddie’s crew for the culvert on Plum Hollow and Scenic. Eddie’s bid did not include labor costs which we will already be paying his crew.
Charles Wood moved to accept the bid as presented by Bill Milligan for the Plum Hollow & Scenic culvert. Motion was seconded by Jim Hannon. Motion passes unanimously.

7:13pm Ray Massey announced an Executive Session to discuss personnel matters.  We were asked to enjoy the 19th Hole while we wait for futher information from the Board.
8:18pm The Board meeting was reconvened. President Massey asked for a motion for adjournment. Motion made, seconded and approved. Meeting adjourned. [???]
