I don't know who to thank so I will say that I sincerely appreciate the wonderful surprise I experienced today when I walked  into the clubhouse gym room and was greeted with the aroma of PineSol!  The room was clean, the equipment was wiped down, the floor was washed and the tablecloth was removed!  Happy Days, happy days!

As you and other neighbors may already know, I use the gym at the clubhouse and have done so on and off since it opened.  I recently spoke with Mary Pracht (board member) regarding the unavailability of the gym on a Sunday afternoon and have received assurances from her that this would no longer be the case.   I sincerely appreciate Mrs. Pracht's immediate response to my concern and hope she can address the following issue; also about the gym.

I have attached three photos.  The first is a photo of the floor in the gym room.  I believe the floor has never been cleaned.  After I took this photo today, I went to the 19th Hole and requested a broom and swept the floor around the equipment myself.  This is no easy feat as the equipment is heavy and I was unable to move any of it.  I am certain whatever lives beneath the gym equipment is heaving a sign of relief that it's home has not been disturbed.

The second photo is of the treadmill.    I direct your attention to the section that looks like it has some sort of liquid spilled on it.  I know not what this liquid is and will not tackle cleaning it myself without ammonia and rubber gloves and possibly a hazmat suit.


The third photo is of the filthy tablecloth that covers the table in the gym room.  I don't know why the tablecloth is there, but I would bet my hard-earned dollar that it has not been cleaned, or replaced, since the gym opened.  I don't even want to guess what the blue stain represents.

Last week I replaced the "AA" battery in the wall clock that hangs over the door.  It has not worked since the original battery died in 2012.  It works now.

I have been in the gym many a time when a realtor has opened the door for prospective buyers to admire the gym facilities in the clubhouse and felt sorry for the poor sap who quickly closed the door because of the condition of the room.  There are signs on the wall to bring no food or drink (except water) into the gym room.  There are signs on the wall asking that members remove their dirty shoes and wear clean shoes on the equipment.  The signs are not sending a clear message when the gym looks like a pig-sty.  Who is responsible for cleaning the clubhouse?  Anyone? 

When I leave the gym room I head straight to the bathroom where I thoroughly wash my hands before I leave the building because I'm afraid of what I might be bringing home. 

Board Members? Candidates?  Anyone have any explanations or suggestions?

Board Meeting ~ January 23, 2014

Vice President Joe Claflin brought the meeting to order at 8:pm

December Board Minutes were approved unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report ~ John Porter:  Passed as distributed & read at the Town Meeting – Unanimously.  See Financial Highlights as inserted in the Town Meeting Notes

• Finance Committee is meeting every Wednesday @ 9:am to review next year’s budget.

Moving the Police Department ~ Ken Benck:  A Board meeting will be held at the PD office / Front Gate on February 5^th @ 9:am to discuss Chief Joel Tyner’s request to move the police department across the street to the Deli area.  Some of the costs involved:

• Rental fee:  $340.00 per month for new location.  Zero payment at current location
• Utility fee:  approximately $100.00 per month.  (?) at current location
• Volunteers will be needed to man the current ‘Front Gate’ to be used for informational purposes.
• Police officers / Security personnel will be located outside of Diamondhead.

Police Vehicles ~ Ken Benck:  A motion was made to approve (1) one vehicle for the police department by using the Capital Reserve Fund.  $39,000 - $12,000 = $27,000 left in the Capital Reserve Fund.  Motion was approved unanimously.

Front Gate Stickers ~ Ken Benck:  Stickers are being purchased for next year’s gate entrance fees.  These stickers will be placed in the upper left hand corner of the windshield, “no exceptions”.

Motion sensor Lights ~ Mary Pracht:  The vote to approve these motion sensor lights was rescinded.  A Street light will be placed on the electricity poles at the cost of $8.00 a month per light bulb.

Note:  Mary Pracht stated the Agenda Meeting Notes need to be corrected regarding this issue.  These lights are needed for the Magnolia trees at the Front Entrance, not the ‘Front Gate’ as was indicated.

Straw Vote:  The straw vote to approve $1,800 for road work done on Possum Run to provide access to a DH member’s property was unanimously approved.

Cemetery Lot clarification

Cemetery Lot Clarification

Some reports and postings in the past attributed the funding for fencing and steps at the cemetery lot on Utley Court as donations from Sue Pelt. Sue and Joe would like this erroneous information corrected.

The fence and steps improvements were funded by the Questers organization as one of their historically-significant projects. Questers does not accept outside donations for any of their projects.

Sue and Joe have been active in supporting many Diamondhead projects over the years, but do not want credit for contributions of other parties or organizations. What Good Neighbors they are!

Beautification Committee Minutes ~ January 2014

January 23rd-2014- Town Meeting Report-Diamondhead Beautification Committee

DBC December 17th meeting topics:

·        Short term goals, history of the BC & charter information

·         Purchasing decorations and purchasing and/ or seeking donations for storage shelving to help organize all our decorations/supplies. (Requests donations of shelving from community).

·        Fund raising ideas, (raffle), & project planning (front landscape & median completion, & sprinkler system for short term goals & south side for long term goal).

     DBC January 14^th meeting topics:

·        Welcomed a new member, Bianca Brock

·         Sprinkler system; placing a request on the January Board agenda/presentation

·        Valentine decorations for the median & Easter decorations for the fountain, potted plants down the median, (spray painting some donated pots will save costs), and completing the front club area landscaping as well as planning for south side beautification projects.     

·        Sponsoring a raffle for a major donated prize will be explored as a fund raiser, (F. Taylor).  

·        2 free storage units are being organized to store our supplies. (2 storage cabinets were donated).

·        Next fund raiser: Community Pancake Breakfast scheduled for Saturday, April 19, (C. Donnelly).

·        The weather didn’t cooperate well in the BC efforts to get the Christmas decorations up or down, but all ended well. DBC is energized as we plan for 2014 projects & fundraisers.

A Sprinkler System to water the front & side of the club is a recommendation DBC proposes as a capital improvement goal.   

The BC was assigned the task of landscaping the New club House by the DPOA Board 4 years ago at the time of construction.  The committee accepted the task, though it seemed an overwhelming assignment.   The BC was fortunate that Kelly Kendrick, professional landscaper, joined our committee and under her guidance, DBC has gone above and beyond expectations in delivering a beautiful landscape around the club house.  Kelly volunteered her expertise during the past 4 years.  She has used her creativity to help with other projects as well.  The amount spent on the club house landscaping during the past 4 years is approximately $12,000/double that when counting volunteer labor costs.  DBC raised all the money for this project through community supported fund raisers and donations from residents.  Installation of a sprinkler system is needed to maintain this POA asset. (This asset will protect an asset that accents the club).  Eddie Gilbreath, Diamondhead Maintenance/Golf Course Supervisor obtained bids for this project.  The project will be coordinated by Eddie.  The estimated cost is $4100-65000.  An additional $4-500 will be needed for a meter installed by Rivera, (Eddie will negotiate for lower cost).   Eddie obtained three bids, (1 for$4,065.89 & 1 for $6500), which I now give to DPOA Treasurer for incorporation into the budget.  One bid was rejected because the system was not a water saving system.   The systems being considered are energy efficient drip systems which use much less water.  Eddie prefers the lower bid which will bring the total cost to approximately $4600.  The DBC requests on behalf of Diamondhead Community that the cost of a sprinkler system, ($4600-5000), be included in the 2014 DPOA capital improvement budget.

Meeting opened with a slide show presentation by Jimmy Weber extolling the merits of DISK GOLF.  Jimmy is the Chairman of the Architectural Committee and a member of the Long Range Planning Committee.  Together with the encouragement of the Youth Committee / Kathy DeVilbiss, made this new and exciting sport a real possibility for Diamondhead.

"As a DH resident, I thought this conceptual idea might be of interest to the DH Community.  The space utilized is common ground and the total cost would be paid for by the DH LIONS CLUB and the DH Youth Committee. Private Board Meeting

There is an announcement on the Marquee at the Front Gate stating that the Board will be meeting Monday, Jan. 13th at 6:30 pm for a private, "Board personnel only", session of the DPOA Board of Directors.  No mention of topic???              Update 1-14-14:  It seems that the Board met to pick a new person for the General Manager position.

Rookie of the Year!

Noah Logan Burlison, son of Krissy Gage & David Burlison and grandson of Mary & Joe Gage, got 5th place and Rookie of the Year for the 2013 Racing at I-30 Speedway!!!!

The board has hired a new GM. 

His name is Charles Landrum.

Mr. Landrum is a Diamondhead resident:

"He has extensive experience in the hospitality industry,

 including many years in management with Marriott and 

 The Peabody Hotel in Little Rock." 

Start Date is January 6th, 2014 (?)

Mr Landrum declined the General Manager position.
