"Dead Drugs"

Saturday 4/27, is the Garland County Drug Disposal Day
You can take any medicine that you wish to get rid of to the Garland County Fair Grounds between 10 am & 2 pm or
if you wish to drop your "dead drugs" off here at Diamondhead, we will have a collection point between 10 am and noon at the Santa House. You can just drive by and leave your medicines.
This is an annual service of the Garland County Sheriffs Department and keeps unwanted items out of land fills, or keeps them from being flushed into the water table.
Thank you.

Response from President Suzzi Combs

For the BLOG
I have read the blog and feel it is time to respond, less all who read it will think it is the gospel.
Yes, I did tell Diane Porterfield that I was offended by her poll wanting to know if the Diamondhead Board of Directors should “promote” Diamondhead OR “tell the truth.”  Now for the Rest of the Story:  I told Diane I was offended that she would think she has a franchise on the truth and that promoting Diamondhead and telling the truth were in conflict.  Her post implies that this board has not been truthful or that we have something to hide.  She implies that to promote Diamondhead is a bad thing.  I suggest it is the responsibility of the Board to promote Diamondhead.  It is our responsibility to protect our property values, promote (read that as raise to a higher level) our lifestyle and defend Diamondhead whenever necessary.
If you drove into Diamondhead before you purchased your property, you came through a security gate, saw the golf course and hopefully were made aware that there were dues and fees. Yes, POA dues are mandatory just like taxes, but that doesn’t mean everyone pays, just like not everyone pays their taxes. I have listened to residents’ concerns that we are not doing enough to collect delinquent POA dues.  We have called and written the owners.  We have sent the account to collection agencies. We have placed liens on their properties.
I am tired of hearing that previous boards didn’t have this problem.  Oh Yes They Did.  It just that this Board has brought the dirty little secret out of the shadows and into the Town Meeting for all to hear.  There is a responsibility that comes with the “transparency” of government, and now it is time to act responsibly on that knowledge.

Should Board members "promote" Diamondhead?
Or...
Should Board members share information with the Diamondhead membership?  This information could be current events or positive / negative issues.

LHFD ~ Fire Chief Matt Simpson

A Fireman’s Prayer

Yesterday, April 8, 2013, I was humbled by the experience of attending the celebration of the life of Matt Simpson.

I didn't know Matt well.  But from my experience of working on a community project with him, I found him to be a very dedicated person to family, friends and to the security of the community where he lived.  His desire for self improvement was exhibited by the number and variety of the certifications and awards he received.

I have had occasion to attend and participate in military farewells to friends, comrades and family.  But this was impressive - and an indication of his influence throughout the state and beyond.

Several hundred people, mostly fire fighters and law enforcement personnel from all over the state, were present.  The honor guard and a drum and bagpipe corp. gave a very impressive indication of the high status these people held for Matt.

When I was young, my mother told me that when a good person passes on, it will rain - and that is the angels crying.  It took me some years to understand what she was telling me. We, those left behind, cry because of our loss. The angels cry with happiness - for they are welcoming one of theirs home.  It is raining in Diamondhead.

Garland County Millage Increase

The National Park Community College is asking for a 1.7 millage increase.  Early voting is from April 2 through April 5 and the voting day is Tuesday April 9th.

I believe we are overtaxed all around.  I am not against improvements at the community college.
However, the proper way to build new buildings is by issuing bonds when they are repaid at the end of that debt.  Once a millage is increased, it is there from that time forward.  Today is the last day for early voting. ALL voting places will be open Tuesday April 9th.  Whatever your stance on this issue - you need to get out and vote.  This is the only way to let public officials hear our voices.
