Message from the President

When things get rough in Diamondhead our heroes emerge. Buddy Hudson, our General Manager, is coordinating the efforts of staff and volunteers. Through the special efforts of Chief Joel Tyner and GM Buddy, we got service in Diamondhead from the tree removal people and Entergy and before parts of Pulaski County, nice work guys. A special thank you to all the volunteers for the work you have done and all I know you have ahead of you on Wednesday.

Our roads are passable and power is on, so the major hurdles have been overcome. At this time, it doesn’t look like we will have any more damage, so enjoy your holiday with the New Year’s Eve Party at the 19th hole, football on Tuesday and get ready to hit it on Wednesday.

Thank you for making Diamondhead such a special place.

Roads Committee Update

Diane,

The road committee will be taking another look at our roads as a result of the recent snow storm. Since we have not yet completed our plan for road improvements for 2013, any damage caused as a result of the storm will be taken into consideration as we complete our plan. I also know that Eddie is out looking at the roads and putting together a plan for his crew when they return from the holidays. With so many trees down, it will take some time to get them cut up, hauled away and burned.

I was out of town when the storm hit, we didn't get home until late Thursday, after much work had been done by volunteers. I do not have a complete list of those who volunteered their time and effort to help clear roads, but I can say that the list is long. Of course, Bill Milligan did a tremendous amount of work, using his own equipment, to clear snow and trees from the roads. He was out again today (Sunday) making 2-lane roads out of what had been 1-lane roads due to downed trees. I have been told that there was also a large number of folks out during and just after the storm, with chain saws, making the roads at least passable. Some names I have heard associated with the chain saw work, and I'm sure I am missing some, are: Mike McFarland, Mike Rhodes, Rick Noffsinger and Kevin Cooper. Certainly without the efforts of many volunteers, Diamondhead would have had a much, much more difficult time. I also think Eddie was out early Tuesday evening cutting trees from Plum Hollow, even before the worst of the damage became evident. Overall, it sounded like a typical Diamondhead response to a bad situation, in that everyone who could pitched in to help the community.

I have been corrected!  There are still homes that have not, yet, been connected to electricity.  I still see tree trimming trucks and service trucks on our roads.  I pray it will all be completed soon!  Thanks Gina.

Hi Diane,

Things are moving along pretty well, now. in getting everyone in the community's electricity back on. The 19th hole is up and running; Food and a Warm place for friends and neighbors.  However, it will take a few days to get things back to 100 %.   The New Year's Eve party will be a GO as planned.   I will be visiting with Eddy on the clean up project, and time frame involved.   I will also be getting with Bob Jones of the road committee as to the road damages from the Ice.   I'm so proud of our community and how so many people came together to help out.

In the upcoming days we'll be putting more information out for such things as where our residents can take their tree limbs, etc. to burn.  As well as, the progress in getting things back to normal.

New Year's Eve Party

ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR THE NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY

ALTHOUGH KEVIN HAD TO DISCARD ALL THE FROZEN AND REFRIGERATED FOOD AT THE 19TH HOLE, HE IS REPLACING THAT NEEDED FOR OUR PARTY.

THE SOCIAL COMMITTEE IS TAKING DOWN SOME OF THE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS TODAY AND TOMORROW WILL ADD NEW YEAR'S DECOR.

DOORS TO THE BANQUET ROOM WILL OPEN AT 7:00 PM FOR THE PARTY. THE LOUNGE IS NOW OPEN REGULAR HOURS.

MUSIC BY BYRON EFRID, LOTS OF FOOD MOST OF THE EVENING, AND CHAMPAGNE AT MIDNIGHT.

TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR FOR $25 PER PERSON

Snow Update

This message is for all those who are lucky enough to gain access to the Internet!

• Diamondhead is without electricity.  Trees were down Everywhere.
• One house burnt down on Christmas night because of a chimney fire.  The Fire truck was not able to get to the house because of the downed trees. Family is safe.
• Many volunteers were out Christmas night cutting trees and pulling vehicles out of the snow.
• GM Buddy Hudson reported that the elderly have been checked on for various needs; including firewood, meals, emergency access, etc.
• As of today, Dec. 28th, we still have volunteers out cutting trees and checking on houses.
• The police guard house does not have electricty.  All calls are going to Garland County.

Anyone that uses kerosene:  There is no Kerosene to be found in Garland County at this time.

We are all in this together.  Thank you to all the wonderful Volunteers!  I have never been so thankful to live in Diamondhead!

ALERT ---- Diamondhead residents:  Please be aware that the holiday season sometimes brings out the worst in people.  Our community has been hit 3 times in the last 3 to 4 days with break-ins and theft.   Our wonderful community is not immune to theft of property, home break-ins, mail theft or even personal assaults.   All has happened in our community recently.   Please remember to lock your homes when your are away.   Remember to lock your automobiles, lock up your storage sheds where you store valuable tools, golf carts and four wheelers.   Items like this have been taken from homes in our community within the past few days.   Please don't have the attitude that it only happens to someone else.  It's happening to your neighbors, it can happen to you.  Our Police Chief is on high alert with his department and working hard to combat these problems.  However, he can't do it alone.  Don't allow your home and your family to be a target.   Lock your doors when you leave.  Lock your doors when you're home during the day.   One of our recent break-ins happened during mid day. There are many ways to avoid becoming a victim of assault.   Learn how to protect your home and your family.

I will be offering a free community self defense seminar in the near future.   This seminar will focus on how to avoid becoming a victim of assault, how to make your home, automobile and family a more difficult target.   Be Aware, Be Safe !!!

Employee Christmas Party

Last night’s Employee Christmas Party was a lot of FUN, FOOD & FRIENDS!

I would like to express a Special Thanks to all Diamondhead members who donated to the Employee Christmas Bonus that was distributed to each employee by President Susie Combs. Mrs. Combs expressed the Board’s appreciation for a ‘job well done’.

Vice President Rick Noffsinger spoke regarding the tremendous dedication by several employees during this past year of financial difficulties.

“Employee of the Year” award was given to Gabby Tyner for her outstanding service to the Diamondhead Police Department.

Eddie Gilbreth was recognized as the “Manager of the Year” for his 33 years of faithful service and dedication to Diamondhead.

DH resident, Kevin Woodrow, provided the terrific Bar-B-Q pork, chicken, & beef for our dinner;

Thank you to Sharon Perisho for donating her time to decorate the festive Christmas tables.

Our employee Christmas party reinforced the fact that Diamondhead is a wonderful place to live and a great place to raise a family. The employees and residents of Diamondhead truly care about each other and our community. I’m proud to be the General Manager of this community!

DH Quilters Christmas Luncheon

The Diamondhead Quilters just had their Christmas luncheon at Mueller's Bakery in Hot Springs today!
Diamondhead residents, Rick & Kathy Burch, are the new owners of Mueller's Bakery.  Fantastic lunch!  I would highly recommend the Quiche and Strawberry Salad Special.

Mueller's Bakery is located in the old K-mart shopping center just off Higdon Ferry Rd, across Crawford St from Colton's steak house and right next door to Service Liquor.
