Agenda Meeting ~ May 20, 2015

President Mary Pracht announced the resignation of 2 Board members: 

1. Ken Benck – moving to Hot Springs
2.  Gordon Moore – moving to Little Rock

Three new Board members will be sworn into office at the Annual meeting in August:

1. Jim Ott
2. John Engles
3. Sharon Carr

* At the Annual Meeting in August, 5 of the 9 Board members will be NON-elected.

Straw Vote will be ratified at next week’s Board meeting regarding $10,000 to repair pot holes in DH road ways.

Dumpster Days:  “A complete disaster”

• Main issue: The significant amount of dumping on the ground.  A county employee took pictures of the site and turned them over to authorities who fined Diamondhead and charged over $600. per dumpster –> 5 dumpsters = >$3,000.00.
• Letter from the Department of Environmental Services
• The fine has been canceled
• Witnesses have called the office to indicate individuals who misused the dumpsters:
• Dumped trash on the ground
• Dumped illegal items such as paint, tires, computers, etc.
• Scavengers going through the dumpsters
• Possible use of dumpsters by non-residents
• No official or non-official personnel were on site to monitor dumpster use, as has been the case during the last seven (7) years.  GM James Turner stated that the dumpsters were made available to Diamondhead residents ‘as a courtesy’.  It was assumed that ‘if the dumpster was full, the resident would simply call the office to request an additional dumpster’. 
• During the past several years volunteers have assisted residents in the dumping of their trash.  This year those volunteers called the POA office to let the management know they would not be able to be present at the site.
• The Board made it clear that the illegal dumping was “not a management issue”.  It was expected that residents and possibly others (?) would “act like adults” in their use of the dumpster availability.
• The Dumpster has signage that indicates proper use of the dumpster.  It was stated by the Board that this was a ‘criminal issue’ and evidence of individuals involved would be turned over to the authorities.  “This has nothing to do with the Board or management … since it was illegal dumping in the county.”
• Thank you to the volunteers who assisted in clean up:  Lee Wheelington, Kevin Cooper, Bob Jones, Matt Crow, & Mike Warren.
• Maintenance Department – Eddie & his crew finished the job.

Septic / Greece Trap Problem – will be discussed at the Town Meeting next Thursday

New Pool Hours: 

DRC / Pool 2008 Agreement – “The bottom line is that DRC has no problem with DH charging for pool use as long as it is announced at a Town meeting to get their (the town’s people) feed back.”  “This year it is a mute point” since pool passes have already been issued.  “Next year’s Board will have to deal with that.”

Railing at the old Pro Shop:  The railing has been torn down by a vehicle accident.  Mary Pracht asked for this railing to be replaced by donations from the various clubs / committees. The estimated cost will be $3,640.00.  Resident Gregory Brock stated that this should be paid for by the driver’s liability insurance.

Gregory Brock attended the Agenda Meeting as a representative of five (5) DH families.

Residents Gregory Brock & Chris Wasson have been asked to submit their resumes for the 2 open positions on the Board.

Tennis & Basket Ball Courts:  Kathy DeVilbis made a request to repair the Tennis & Basket ball courts to improve the ‘run-down’ look of this common area.  A cost of $6,000 - $25,000 was discussed.  A suggestion was made to simply remove the rubber coating and paint the cement with a fresh coat of green paint.  This should be much easier to maintain and sufficient for the needs of our residents.

Entergy Tree limbs :  Chris Wasson, DH home owner & Entergy employee, suggested residents call Entergy to report any remaining tree limbs or road damage to the Vegetation Department.  This is the responsibility of Entergy.
