Candidates Night ~ 2016
Board Treasurer, John Porter & Nomination Committee Chairman, Bob Jones
Ballots will be mailed out July 1st ~~ Due back by July 31st
Six (6) Board Positions available:
- 3 positions with a 3 year term of office
- 1 position with a 2 year term of office
- 2 positions with a 1 year term of office
Since all six (6) candidates will automatically become Board members, this year's election will determine the positions held by the candidates. DH property owners will be asked to vote for 1 -> 6 candidates. The 3 candidates with the most votes will be given the 3 open positions with a 3 year term of office, 4th candidate will receive the position with the 2 year term of office, and the 2 candidates with the least votes will receive the 1 year term positions.
Each candidate was given an opportunity to make an opening speech. Bob read a prepared speech for each of the three (3) candidates who were unable to attend:
- Debbie Clements was attending a family function. Debbie's main goals are to improve property values and use a common sense approach to government.
- Chris Wasson has been on a church related youth event. Chris is currently serving as president of the DH Board of Directors.
- Dan Hodson is away on business.
Gary Pritsch has lived in Diamondhead since 1990. Gary believes it is important for DH members to work together for the benefit of Diamondhead.
I'm excited about being on the Board with these younger individuals. Opportunity for diversity. It is always good to have a 'balanced approach' in making decisions for the betterment of our community.
I ask you to give us an opportunity to move forward from here to see what we can do. The greatest thing I would like to see is for us to move from us / them to we.
We've gone from over 1600 dues paying members to less than 1000. So, we need to approach this issue wisely.
People are coming to DH to play golf and eat at the 19th Hole for less than I pay to use our amenities. Something must be done about this. We must capitalize on outside income.
David Bell "DJ" has lived on the South Side of Diamondhead with his wife and 3 children for 8 years. DJ would like our community to 'get back to a friendly atmosphere'.
I would like to bring back the fun activities that brought people to together: Razorback parties, social gatherings.
When asked if he would seek advice from experienced community members and/or committees, David expressed his thinking; "It would be great!".
Martha Lindvall has lived in DH since 2011 and has served on the Beautification, Finance & Public Relations committees, and is active in the Lions Club. 'togetherness is needed'...'common sense approach'.
Martha wants to see DH on the top 10 places to live in the U.S.
' "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much", Helen Keller '
Martha explained that her experience lies in research. If any member has a question regarding Diamondhead, Martha will find the answer.
