DH Member / Resident asked that the following questions be entered into the meeting's record:
What data was used to determine a need for Diamondhead 24/7
police coverage?
How was the analysis of the data performed?
What was the result of the analysis?
Based on the analysis, how many calls over the time period
analyzed would have had a different outcome with Diamondhead 24/7 police
coverage?
What alternatives to Diamondhead 24/7 police coverage were
considered?
How does the Diamondhead crime rate compare to the
surrounding county area?
How does the Diamondhead crime rate compare to other gated
communities in the area?
In specific, quantifiable, terms, how will Diamondhead 24/7
police coverage improve the security of the community?
What is the problem that Diamondhead 24/7 police coverage is
attempting to solve? The letter talks
about someone “kicking in your front door” and “having a heart attack”. Are these situations so prevalent in the
community as to be a real problem? It is
impossible to determine if the problem has been solved without adequately
stating the problem.
Please note we currently have 24/7 police coverage provided
by Garland and Hot Springs counties. The proposed Diamondhead 24/7 police coverage
does not change this coverage, but only potentially changes the response time.
What analysis of current Diamondhead police coverage and
security has been done and what were the results of the analysis? Is the half time Diamondhead police coverage
being used effectively?
How is security defined?
This is an important question because the answer shapes the expectations
of the community. If you ask individuals
of the community how they define it, I would expect the answers to range from I
want someone to keep me safe from every threat possible to I can take care of
myself with limited assistance. What is
a reasonable definition of security that can be provided to the Diamondhead
community with available resources?
What other aspects/layers of security have been
analyzed/considered? Security planning
encompasses many different items, the majority of which have little to do with
an onsite police response. It includes
things such as maintaining higher property values which changes the makeup of
the community, personal awareness and responsibility such as locking doors and
having adequate lighting, community responsibility such as neighborhood
watches, effectively limiting access to the community and a variety of other
items to discourage bad behavior. Please
detail how these have been considered.
What is the net gain from Diamondhead 24/7 police coverage
versus the additional cost of the coverage?
