Town Meeting 5-20-10

These are the Notes from the Town Meeting as viewed by Diane Porterfield

[If anyone would like to enter his or her own version on last Thursday night’s meeting, please feel free to do so. I will be happy to post it, as well.]
7pm - Terry Shipp giving the Treasure’s Report opened the meeting. I will post a copy of his report to go along with these notes. His primary focus seemed to be on the number of delinquent lots. Noting that out of the 1201 billed lots (&1/2 lots) 602 are delinquent by at least one month, or 50%.

Latter in the evening Larry Brown explained how he could contact those delinquent lot owners with an offer to buy their lots in exchange for one of his condo/hotel units.

Jim Hannon announced Candidate’s Night would be during the next Town Meeting on Thursday, June 17th, at 7pm. We have 5 candidates (see main page of The Committee Report). They will each be given 5 minutes for opening remarks, asked prepared questions, and be allowed closing remarks. This will be an open forum. [So, come prepared with your own questions, as well!]

Standards Committee Chairman, Rick Noffsinger pleaded with the Board to “do something” with the yards near the Country Club. He said “some of them have grass over a foot tall, and are a mess. At least you should be concerned about what visitors see as they drive in and around our new Country Club”. Rick has been working very hard to encourage the specified Rules and Regulations be enforced. [With little response]


Bob Jones announced that Spa Construction won the bid on road construction.

Social Committee Chairman, Debbie Clement announced a change in their meeting time…. from 2pm to 4pm on the Wednesday before every Town meeting, in the Library. Debbie was also happy to share the news of an Old Fashion Ice Cream Social being planned for the 4th of July. Please let Debbie know if you have an ice-cream maker and would like to volunteer. The Social Committee was thanked for the freezer purchased for the 19th Hole.

Public Relations Committee Chairman, Rick Noffsinger, praised Jenny Lafort for the wonderful article she wrote called “Residents on the Go”, that will appear in the next issue of the Focus.

Debbie Clement and Rick Noffsinger suggest improving our Yellow Page Add by enlarging the font size.

John Cummins announced that the Lions Club will be starting Bingo two Saturdays a month.

An announcement was made regarding the authorization of a Pool expenditure of $1,707.00. This was something the Eddie and his crew was not able to do.

For the next several minutes, Larry Brown (Family Fun Center), set in the front of the room with a microphone extolling the benefits of his proposal. When a question was asked regarding parking, Mr. Brown said, “…they were looking into the possibility of a parking tower.” When asked about the discrepancy between current member’s dues and the proposed Condo/Hotel member dues (900 vs. 360 per year), Mr. Brown explained that his corporation would give $25,000.00 each year from the profits of the Family Fun Center. [How do we verify when a profit is made?]

Tom Wright gave a lengthy report on his and Beverly’s trip to a Family Fun Center in Little Rock. Tom was amazed at the well managed, clean, and healthy environment he found. When asked who owned, operated, or built that establishment, it was not Larry Brown.
Dewayne Mountain also visited a Family Fun Center in North West Arkansas. Larry Brown did not own, operate, or build that facility. When asked if Mr. Brown had ever built a Family Fun Center, he said “no, but I have a couple that will be doing this for us”.

Byron Efird, Candidate for the Board – “I doubt you could sell any units without us. But we need the extra money in Diamondhead. There will not be a security problem because it is not a casino. There will not be any drinking…it is a Family Center. The current board is deserving of respect and they have my full support on any decision they make regarding the Family Fun Center.”

Board Director Charles Wood passed out a packet of information to each of the Board members, announcing that Vicki Hunsinger had done Due Diligence on Mr. Brown’s proposal. Director Wood told the members present that this information would be available on The Committee Report.

Beverly Perry asked, “Is this a done-deal?” “Why do we know so little about this?”

Ray Massey explained that they have been looking into this for “10 months”. [The first time Larry Brown was introduced to the membership was at a Town Meeting in our new Club House. We did not use the Club House until after January. Minutes are not taken at Town Meetings, so I’m not sure of the date. Mr. Brown’s name is not mentioned in the Board minutes for Jan. or Feb., and the March minutes have not been approved, yet.]

John Cummins asked the Board, “Is this a done-deal? Which of you are for this? (No answer) Is this all we have to go on? You plan to vote on this next Thursday, and this is all the information we have? How are you going to vote? Finally, Ray Massey responded with “I’ll tell you how I’m going to vote, yes”. Mary Pracht shrugged her shoulders and said she doesn’t know, “I haven’t seen the papers, yet.” The lawyers are drawing up ‘papers’ to be signed after the vote at the Board Meeting next Thursday, May 27th, 7pm.

By this time everyone was tired!!

Golf discussion-the Board was not sure how to go about accepting the proposal given by the Special Golf Committee. After attempting to go through the beautifully prepared booklet, it was decided that the board would read the information this week and vote on it at the next board meeting. President Ray Massey requested comments regarding this information.

All were reminded of the need for donations for the 4th of July celebration this year. Debbie Clement got up and “passed the hat”!

We all started visiting with each other. It was good to meet Cliff and MaryAnn Rush.
