There has been a great deal of misinterpretation spreading through Diamondhead regarding the necessity of ‘Sprinkling’ the Club House. It is for this reason that I called the Arkansas Fire Marshall, Lindsey Williams, to ask him for a clear understanding of this important issue.

Fire Marshall Lindsey Williams stated very clearly that a Sprinkler System is Mandatory. It is not a matter of ‘no longer eating in the Banquet Room’, or ‘posting of occupancy signs’. The 19th Hole Building / Club House was not built according to Fire Code specifications. Allowing the 19th Hole to operate with a restricted occupant load of 99 people until the sprinkler system is installed was offered as “courtesy” simply to allow the club to operate to some degree. The only way to rectify this situation is to spend the funds necessary for the Sprinkler system to be added. Mr. Williams stressed that his department is willing to work with the Diamondhead POA and the local fire official as long as Diamondhead is showing progress toward this regard, ie. Construction bids, funds appropriated, board approval, etc. Mr. Williams also explained that the cost of installing this Sprinkler system will be minuscule if a fire was to break out, someone is injured or dies, and Diamondhead is sued for Fire Code Violations.
