Town Meeting 5-22-14

5-28-14 12:49pm Bear update:  Mama & Cub have not been relocated.  Bears are still in Diamondhead.  Humane Traps have been relocated to be positioned near latest sighting.

Acting President Joe Claflin began the Town Meeting by introducing the various DH committees:

• Beautification Committee – Gail Porter
  
   

• Finance Committee – Treasurer John Porter
  
  
  
• Roads Committee – Diane Jones
• Estimates are being sought for the overhanging branches
• Collapsed culvert –(copied from Agenda Meeting 5-14-14)
•  Roads Committee:  Bob Jones presented the Board with a cost estimate of $3,971.15 for collapsed culvert on Stone Briar.  A 24 inch galvanized culvert is needed.  Only one bid could be obtained.  A 60 foot long, very deep culvert is needed on Diamondhead Drive that could ‘easily be over $10,000”.  The Board will be voting on this issue at the May 22^nd Board meeting.

• Golf Committee – Faye Taylor
• Committee meets the 1^st Wednesday of the month.
• A new ‘Adult w/child’ program will be implemented on Wed. June 11^th.
• Adults may be accompanied by 1-2 children at no charge for child(ren). 

• Public Relations Committee – Suzie Combs
• Candidates for the Board can be found on DH Website
• Professional photographer will be taking pictures of DH
• Newspaper articles appear in Malvern, Hot Springs, & Little Rock

• Safety & Security Committee – Allen Magee
  
• New weather alert system to be implemented:  Code Red System
• Allen encouraged residents to fill out the form provided

• Wild Life Committee – Kevin Cooper
• A Mama Bear and cub are currently in Diamondhead.  The Fish & Game Department has set humane traps in their effort to relocate the bears.
• Every effort should be made to avoid contact with these bears
• Do not feed
• Take down Humming bird feeders

• Youth Committee – Kathie DeVilbiss
• Martial Arts instructor, Jeff Guill, is offering his volunteer service to the young people of our community.  Jeff explained his idea of providing a free of charge, self defense program for girls and boys between the ages of 12- 17.  This program will meet twice weekly for 30-40 minute per day.  Parents are welcome to participate.  Emphasis will be on Respect & Confidence.
• Steve Hildebrand & Jimmy Weber are in the process of designing & implementing the Board approved Disc Golf Course

General Manager’s Report – James Turner   as received from GM James Turner:

The month of May has been a little crazy.  Between dues being due and stickers, we have had our hands full in the office. 

Golf is going well.  We came in just over budget, if you combine the two areas of golf together (104% of budget I believe is the average)

Here are some specific updates by department from the POA office:

Security/Police Department -

·        We have had quit a few police calls this month.  Many for the new bear nuisance.  Please keep your small animals and selves safe at night.

·        The “Police Beat” is available on the web site if you want to look at it.

Admin –

·        If you have any color sticker except for white you are not in compliance, please come by the POA office and get a new one asap.

Golf/Community Operations –

·        7^th tee is under construction, should be open next week.  Planning to sod it on Wednesday.

Pool –

·        Opens Saturday morning.

·         

·        I have been asked to address something with the pool.

o       We are a Private Pool based on a decision by the POA Board and agreement with DRC.

§         We are a private pool because of the agreement with the developer.

ú         We are not required to do a lift, based on the ADA code, Pages 1 & 2, paragraphs 2, 4, & 6 – as a public or private pool.

§         Camp Ozark has been using the pool since 2008. 

ú         They are granted an exception from the developer agreement according to Jack Plumley, as well as

Referring to i-Neighbors, GM James Turner regrets the use of the word Tabloid - "It was a negative statement and a low blow".

Vice President Joe Claflin made the following announcements:

• Tennis Courts will continue to be used as tennis courts. 
• No trash Burning allowed by Diamondhead Community Association by order of the EPA
• Individual DH members may burn their own leaves and branches
• Club House Arbor will not be replaced due to wasp nests.  
• Pearson Wade received a $2,000.00 scholarship from the Lions Club
