Town Meeting ~ January 23, 2014

Mr. Turner expressed his current priorities for Diamondhead:
  1. Communication within the Diamondhead membership
  2. Integrity


Architectural Committee ~ John Cummings:  There are 20 permits issued, 5 for new homes:  1 on Possum Run (South Side), 2 on Diamondhead Drive, 1 on Enchanted Court, 1 on Lost Lake.

Beautification Committee ~ Gail Porter:
·        Saturday, April 19th à Pancake Breakfast
·        Landscape Sprinkler System – The committee has sent a request to the Board for an infra structure / Capital Improvement / project.  This sprinkler system will maintain the $12,000.00 landscape that has been provided to our community by the diligent efforts of many hard working volunteers and the needed funds provided through the various fund raisers for the past five years.  The committee is now asking for the Board to follow through with a commitment of moneys from the Long Range Planning / Capital Improvement Fund.  This sprinkler system will insure the future of a project well done.  Read more by clicking on this link:

Question:  Have you considered lowering the dues for lot owners to encourage payment?
Answer:  The Finance Committee is currently discussing next year’s budget.  This has been discussed.


Roads Committee ~ Larry Hibbs:  “Wish List” includes:
  • Widen Diamondhead Drive from Independence to Cherry Hill
  • Widen Pebble Beach Drive
  • 3 culverts
  • Fill pot holes
  • Eddie’s request for a Back-Hoe at a cost of $65,000
  • Eddie’s request for an Asphalt saw to be used to properly fill pot holes
  • Straw Vote - $1,800 was spent to improve road to new home permit owner on Possum Run

Question:  Allan Thornton ~ What do I have to do to get the road to my property fixed so I will have access to my property on the South Side?  115 KingsDale Court.  According to the Bill of Assurance, this is mandatory. I have been asking for this for 10 of the 14 years I’ve lived in Diamondhead.
Answer: Director Larry Hibbs stated that he would bring this issue to the Roads Committee.

Barbara Schenke is the chairman of the PR Committee.

Safety & Security Committee ~ Allen MaGee: 
  • The mail / drop-off box will be moved inside the gated area due to the unauthorized removal of gate-passes.
  • An arrest has been made regarding the vehicle break-ins. See below - Police Report 
  • A request was made for volunteers to join the Safety committee
Question:  Will you allow the previously disbanded committee members to rejoin the current committee?
Answer: Yes, I will welcome their assistance.

Community Standards ~ Debbie Clements:
  • 3 warning citations have been issued
  • Idea: form a volunteer group to assist in the clean-up of yards.

Police Report ~ Chief Joel Tyner:  Vehicle Break-ins:
  • First event involved 20 vehicles
  • Second event involved 8 vehicles
  • All vehicles were unlocked at the time of the Break-ins
  • 1 juvenile + 3 adults have been identified
    • 1 is in custody
    • 1 is currently being ‘picked up’
    • 2 are ‘on the run’
  • Joel has been very busy with CID = Criminal Investigation Division
Question:  Mary Gage stated that the Front Gate gives us a ‘False sense of security’.
Answer:  Yes, Diamondhead membership must ‘Beef up’ their own security; lights, locks, dogs, alarms, etc.  Take ‘personal responsibility’ for DH homes and property.  There are MANY ways to enter Diamondhead on foot.  
Joe Claflin:  Keep your eyes open & your doors locked.

Roberts Rules of Order Ad Hoc Committee ~ John Porter / Liaison:  Members are Tom Wright, Frank Pohlkamp, & Jack Watson.  John Porter has joined the Society of Parliamentarianism for the cost of $10.00.  This will allow questions to be asked and answered.

Policy & Procedures ~ Mary Pracht:  A second draft of these new revisions will be submitted to the Board for approval.  Some changes that are being considered: Rental fees/rates, reservations, security deposits, security officers for private functions, responsibility for guest behavior, cleaning deposits, first come/first serve,…
The central location for all Policies & Procedures will be the POA office.

Purchase of 2 police vehicles ~ Ken Benck:  Recommends this purchase of two Dodge Chargers / fully equipped / 80,000 miles / $12,000 each.  During the Board meeting it was agreed to sell the ‘Crown Vick’ for $2,000 and purchase one Dodge Charger for $12,000.  This will be accomplished on Jan. 24, 2014.

Legal Issues ~ Mary Pracht:  3 Pending legal issues:
o       Workman’s Comp:  Lady was hurt while making a delivery of sodas to the POA
o       Sam Porterfield vs. DPOA Board of Directors
o       POA vs. Fred Ensminger vs. Jerry Chambliss
