Town Meeting ~ May 19, 2016

General Manager Ed Malloy

Finance Chairman Tom Moore presented the Treasurer’s Report, stating “everything is looking good on expenses”.

GM Malloy added that the cash flow is $100,000 + over last year’s cash flow.

Golf Committee member ‘Cheryl’ advised the membership of the ropes being placed around new grass seeded areas that need to be protected during germination.

Kenny Pearce agreed to continue in his position as golf committee chairman after some issues were resolved.

President Chris Wasson asked whether the golf committee’s goal of 10 new members has been reached, yet.  An agreement was initiated between the golf committee and the Board of Directors:  If 10 new golf members are added before June 1^st, the golf membership dues will not be raised.  This goal has not been met.

Director Sharon Carr offered 2 amenity Rights for a new ‘outside’ golfer to purchase golfing membership at the Diamondhead membership price.

Golf Greens

Discussion ensued regarding the ‘terrible’ condition of the golf greens.  It was explained that the greens have recently been ‘plugged’ in an effort to improve the greens.  With the lack of sunshine and excessive amount of rain, the greens continue to have a ‘rough’ surface.  Some golfers suggest ‘rolling’ the greens to improve the putting surface.  It was stated that several outside players ‘will not be coming back’ to play on our DH golf course.  Director Jim Ott suggested giving the golf course more money to take better care of the course – ‘like it was 25 years ago’.

President Wasson wants to give GM ED Molloy a chance to rectify the golf course problems.

Golf Rules

The golf course rules state that golfers are to wear shirts with collars.  The golf members objected to this rule being enforced.  GM Malloy suggested the committee re-evaluate the current rules & regulations – because it was made clear at last month’s Town meeting that the membership wants all DH Rules enforced.  See last month’s Town meeting notes.

No Safety Committee – Chief Joel Tyner said “everything is fine”.

Wild Life Committee members will be attending a seminar entitled “Chronic Wasting Disease” at the National Park Collage.  This seminar will give information for dealing with our deer population.

~ A question was asked – What happened to the idea of ‘scrambling’ the goose eggs? Six (6) families of geese have been seen parading their off-spring for all to see.  President Wasson suggests members with remote control boats should chase the geese on the front ponds.

Roads Committee – Jerry Wright

Drainage Issues ~

• Cool Wood – ½ mile of drainage needs
• Roads are built on shale – the worst kind you can have. 
• Lost Lake – ½ mile of ditch clean out – ditches are almost non existent.
• Much of the standing water is due to property owner’s lack of self maintenance.
• Suggestions were made for property owners to maintain the drainage areas in front of their own property…possibly assisting in the care of vacant lots near by in the effort to control water run-off.

Legal Issue:  Chambliss vs. DPOA has been closed – ‘over & done’. 

GM Report:

• Schools are closing, please watch you speed
• Pool passes are available at the front office
• 19^th Hole menu change – to make suggestions called the GM 262-4470
• Lift Arm Gate – control box was hit, Gate was manned by security personnel.  All overtime pay will be reimbursed by the insurance.

Discussion ensued regarding the installation of the Lift Gates.  President Wasson explained the need for POA members to stop at the speed bump, allowing the gate to close before proceeding through the gates.  Many expressed their desire to have a more functionally appropriate and esthetically pleasing entrance.

• Propane Tank –coverage by fencing or landscape.  Ideas for evergreen shrubs verses the cost of fencing will be researched.
• Plans are being made to trim the overhanging trees, mowing road side grasses, and clean community drainage ditches.

Lions Club Yard Sale ~ Kathy DeVilbiss presented a check for $2,000 to the General Manager to add to the Tennis / Basket Ball Court resurfacing fund.  A previous check for $5,000 from the Youth Committee and a $1,000 gift from the Wild Life Committee brings this fund to a total of $8,000. Kathy made a request for the balance of the cost of resurfacing be paid for by the POA.

Club House Maintenance – Sharon Perisho made a request for members with questions regarding the cleaning process to please contact her, personally.

DUMPSTER DAYS ~ May 20 – 22 ~ Dumpsters will be located near the Swimming pool.  The cost to the POA for this service is $1,301.00 for the three (3) days.
