Care Caps Connection - Diamondhead helpers

Mary Philips is putting out an “All Call” for help on Monday, August 29.
Volunteers from several Care Cap Connections™ teams plan to join in a one-day sew-in. They are producing cancer caps for M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

“Summer demand from all our medical centers pushed our reserves to zero,” says Mary. “We must make 150-200 caps to satisfy immediate extra requirements.”

Volunteers are needed for any aspect of the production line—sewing, cutting, pinning, winging, ironing and packaging. They meet at the First Baptist Church in Damascus. The church is slightly off HWY 65 at the HWY 285 junction. The sew-in is from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. For this one sew-in, because the 15 care cap machines may not be enough, Mary asks that sewing participants bring personal light weight machines, if possible. She also invites new volunteers.

Teams work hard but hundreds of women, men and youth have fun in the worthy project. Care Cap volunteers have produced over 36,500 garments to ship to 24 medical centers. This month, the charity added Facebook and Twitter access to updates from its new web address: www.carecaps.org. An instructional video was filmed earlier this month for distribution to distant individuals and prospective sewing groups.
