Beautification Committee ~ Judy Thye:
The Front Median has been completed with the compost applied around the flowers & shrubs. Judy thanked those members of DH who came out to help. An update from this committee can be found on the Right Side Column of the Report under ‘Committee & Community Pages’.
The Daffodil Tournament will be held this Sunday, May 20th. Betts Winsor will be in charge of the Guy & Dolls Tournament which will be held in September. It was noted, again, that the golfing community is requesting a “person in charge” / “go to person”, someone who will manage and assist the tournament directors. “We are not requesting a Golf Pro be hired. We need an experienced, full time, employee who will be there to answer our questions and give direction.”

Golf Committee ~ DeOtis Cotton:
We are hoping to combine our Score Card to the Golf Web-site. We are still having problems with the “blue flags”. The golf marshals have noted that carts are being seen in places they should not be. If you have a blue flag, make sure it is a legal blue flag.It was stated that each month of 2012 the guest players on the golf course have decreased. We are recommending that a separate account be set up as a Golf Fund that will eventually allow us to replace the golf greens as necessary. Green #5 has needed to be replaced for the last 5 years. In order to start this procedure, we recommend an increase of $100 in golf membership dues. In order to move forward, we are recommending that DH hire an experienced, full time manager in our Pro shop. We are not asking for a PGA professional, but we are asking for an experienced person who can run tournaments, help volunteers, and promote Diamondhead.
Golf superintendent Eddie Gilbreth and Kenny Pearce were asked to speak on the issue of replacing the Greens. Kenny stated that it would be nice to replace the greens, but the money would be better spent in the fairways and the roughs. Eddie gave us a great deal of information regarding various grasses and the pros and cons of each. He agreed with the plan for future improvements of the greens. The greens “are getting old”. Each green would be out of commission for 6 weeks, but the revenue would not decrease – according the Eddie’s plan.
John Porter stated, “We should have had a capital improvement fund a long time ago”.
Joe Claflin asked, “What is the maintenance relationship between the greens we have now and new ones?” Eddie’s response, “it will be more maintenance”.
Sandra Shipp asked, “Why aren’t we raising the POA dues so the whole community can pay for these greens?”
Pool Update:
Chief Tyner expressed his appreciation to the community for all the assistance the police department has been receiving.
ACC Committee ~ Jack Watson:
New Business:
Damage was purposely inflicted in the men’s bath room. Vandalism occurred on the tennis courts. It is reported that these incidents are being done by young adults that no longer live in Diamondhead. The tennis courts will be locked at night.
Notice to Board members and POA members: If you have a problem with an employee it must be taken to the general manager, not the employee.
Map of Diamondhead: Diane Porterfield presented a new map for Diamondhead residents and guests. This is the most recent map available from the Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce.
