The majority of our chargers carry an intermittent current which causes the fence to short out every ¼ of a second. The purpose of this short is to offer safety to any animals or humans who may come into contact with the wire. The short will allow an animal to receive a shock but then also have the opportunity to pull itself off the wire during the ¼ of a second. A shock from an electrical fence will hurt, but it should not be harmful.
Keep in mind, most people will be wearing shoes when coming into contact with electrical fencing, which will prevent the circuit from being completed, as their feet are not making contact with the soil. Unless you have an extremely high voltage fence, the result will be either no shock of a very mild shock.
In additional to the intermittent current, electrical containment systems have extremely low amperage with very high voltage. The electricity in your home has low voltage but very high amperage which is the reason that electrocution or harm is a concern with indoor electrical currents.
As far as a method to mark your fence, we have signs that say warning as well as a white flag option. Thsi would be a great visual to make sure that no one accidentally comes into contact with the wires.
