Response to Excerpt from the FOCUS ~ Mary Gage

Sean you are exactly correct in all of your statements. It is people like you that we need on the board. We need to see open, honest people that understand what a community is all about, THE PEOPLE. I would like to state a few facts from events of just the past few days. This is how the board has used our resources, hence the reason they will eventually need a dues increase.

They are extremely busy using our resources to save themselves. Day before yesterday Alan Thornton called Suzzi Combs, however when he did not get an answer he used a co-workers phone and she did answer. He asked her nicely if we could post a response to the Focus, in the Focus. She adamantly told him NO! He calmly ask her if this was a community paper, she said yes. He said and you are denying a resident the privilege to respond to your posting. She advised Alan we have 3 other places to post it. Now this wasn't a board decision , this is a woman who has lost all control of DH as a community and her purpose and has become a dictator controlling every dollar spent. So property owners opinions do not count only those of the "governing body" and the last I knew this was called communism, correct me if I am wrong.

Secondly the 19th hole was being used last night to stuff envelopes with the DH Focus, (not sure if it was the same one given at the gate or the different one that is on line. However during a finance committee meeting we recommended to do the Focus on line to save money as it was losing $30,000 a year but I guess the board can use it to promote themselves at our cost. Most tables(except 3) were taken up by John & Suzzi Combs and their group including Faye Taylor (board member) and our GM, working themselves silly to get this done. They were traveling back and forth to the Golf Pro Shop (which was closed) but unlocked for her friends to go in and make additional copies using , again our resources. However it was nice to see our GM working, that is the most work I've seen him do since he has been here. The 19th hole belongs to the property owners of DH, that was NOT the place to conduct such an effort. No wonder we lose $60,000 per year with that amenity! The best part of this, as we sit having dinner with some friends ,was the point at which the entire group stood up and applauded Suzzi Combs as she graced us with her presence! I thought Queen Elizabeth had come to visit.

I am not sure if they IGNORE the bylaws, I simply think they DO NOT know or understand them otherwise they would not being sending a petition around for people to sign to keep the board and GM. If they UNDERSTOOD the bylaws they would know that is fruitless as a board member can only be elected but they can all be removed by petition. So please BOARD on behalf of the residents I ask you to take from your pockets the money you have used to print and mail all of your personal vendetta's. The property owners should not and will not pay for that if we have to do a class action lawsuit to stop this madness.

I responded to some questions this morning to a resident and I am going to put some of that here, I will be happy to post the entire letter and will do so later today.

First and foremost I want you to know the petition was in the works prior to the removal of Diane Porterfield from the board. Her removal has nothing to do with our petition and that is the truth. Unfortunately for Diane, if they had not removed her ,our petition would have removed her ,as she was a part of the board and the poor decision making, regardless if she voted for or against, it would fall upon her also. The reasons the board removed her may have been wrong but again that has nothing to do with our petition.

Secondly we consulted with an Attorney, he had a copy of our current bylaws (and the proposed new ones) and he instructed us on the procedure to follow within the guidelines of our bylaws.
The petition will be successful and while the signature threshold has been met, WE at the advice of the Attorney prefer we get as many signatures as possible because we want to know this is what the majority of our property owners want. We need to know they see this mismanagement going on and are in need of serious change so we have a community that functions for the betterment of all of us and our property values. If they continue to raise dues or tweak all of the fees so it is cumbersome to the property owners NO ONE will buy in Diamondhead so our property will be worthless to sell.

As far as the GM is concerned he cannot manage his own personal affairs , evident by filing bankruptcy not once but twice ,a chapter 7 and a 13. That does not make him responsible as our board President said, it makes him incompetent to manage but understands how to find the easy way out of your obligations. He is not and has not been managing DH since the day he was hired. Not one report of our condition, does not attend finance committee meetings at all ,either because he does not care or does not understand what we are even talking about. So losing him will not leave us exposed, we are exposed.

The removal of this board can only start the road to improvement so the interim board and the fact a GM is not currently in place would give me a greater peace in knowing maybe this can be salvaged. From where I sit we are in deep trouble already in DH, the people just don't know it yet.

Contrary to what they print, none of us involved in this have a desire to be on the board or at least in the immediate future, we are more concerned with the direction we see this community heading and our fate that lies ahead.

Thank you All for your support, lets get on the road to recovery NOW

I would like to add one last thought.

By removing this BOARD we will be sending the message: this community will no longer tolerate tyrants as board members! We expect open , honest and ethical decisions that favor the property owners of DH and all of the common grounds and OUR facilities.

They removed a board member and spoke of "a serious breach of ethics" ??? What was yesterday and last night at the 19th hole folks? What was denying a resident a voice in OUR FOCUS ?? I guess ethics apply to everyone but on you.
How do we wear out equipment on infrastructure when there are no real improvements to our roads and common grounds?
